Android Passes Apple With Most Tablet Market Revenue In Q3

Android

Apple has been given a black eye by Google’s Android OS today as new reports reveal that iPad has lost its seat as the king of the tablet market. According to IDC, Google and other makers of Android based tablets, finally took the lion’s share of the market last quarter.

Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty issued a memo to investors on Friday saying, “For the first time, Android devices accounted for a greater share of the market in revenue terms than iOS. Android revenue share reached 46.2 percent in 3Q13, for the first time exceeding iPad share of 45.6 percent. Android’s unit share grew to 66.7 percent from 40.2 percent…”

Google’s Bubble Will Pop

Both Huberty and IDC agree that the time on the throne for Google will be short, as Apple just released its iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display. These two products will most likely carry Apple through the holiday season and boost its market share back to the top slot. IDC says that the iPad market is set to experience “robust shipment growth” this quarter.

Holiday Sales Kicking Off

Both Apple and Google are getting ready for the holiday season, and many of the stores that sell Android based tablets like the Nexus or Galaxy Note, will be open on Thanksgiving Day to kick off Black Friday deals early this year. Apple however, will not be opening additional stores, as Tim Cook feels that employees need to spend time with family on the holiday.
With the new iPad Mini with Retina Display still fresh on the market, the choice to remain closed on Thanksgiving has been questioned by Apple’s Marketing Directors. However, Cook remains firm in his decision to not open any extra Apple Stores in the U.S. Employees of Apple are grateful for this choice by the CEO, however, those unlucky souls who will be working at Walmart are probably cursing him under their breath for the extra customers they will receive.
