Rumors are flying around the Apple community today regarding the possibility that Apple Inc. is about to announce the development of an iPad Pro. These rumors have been making the rounds for quite a while, but now with the release of the iPad Air the mill has begun to buzz once more.

Why The iPad Air Opens The Door For A Pro

Apple has named all of its previous iPad models except the iPad Mini along the same lines as the iPhone, using numbers to indicate which generation the tablet was a part of. However, with the iPad Air, the company broke this tradition, opening up the possibilities for other models later on.

The company selected the Air name because it draws attention to the lightweight design of the new iPad. The latest rendition of the tablet is incredibly slim and brings to bear the focus of today’s clientele on lighter, more portable computers.

Rumors That Foxconn Is Developing Larger Screen iPad

AppleInsider reported on Tuesday that Apple’s supplier, Foxconn, is currently testing out a new iPad model that features a much larger display. According to the report, this king-sized version of the tablet will have either an 11.4 inch or 12.9 inch display. This device is reportedly in advanced testing according to the Chinese site, PadNews.

Still Just Rumors

PadNews says it cannot confirm the validity of its source, although it is believable that Apple could be testing a new product in the iPad line. However, until the company announces the actual development of an iPad Pro, there is no way of knowing for sure if the rumors are true.

Should Apple Bring Out A Larger Version Of The iPad?

The idea of a larger iPad seems somewhat odd, considering that Apple brought out the iPad Mini last year to cater to its clientele. Customers were clamoring for a smaller version of the popular tablet, and now that is to be updated with a Retina display this year.

Is the demand for a larger iPad really that heavy? According to many journalists, the demand is there, and many expect to see Apple announce the product soon. Rumors have been swirling for months around what many journalists call the “iPad Maxi,” which was rumored to have screen sizes that were anywhere from 11 to 13 inches.

Even analysts have suggested that Apple should and will bring out a larger iPad. When Apple delivered the 64-bit A7 chip for the iPhone 5S, Ben Reitzes, and analyst at Barclays, immediately speculated that Apple would bring out a 13 inch iPad that could have a convertible clamshell design. He cited the shift to 64-bit technology for iOS devices as the pre-runner to the larger iPad.
