Disturbing Video Of Girl Trying To Keep Her Mother From Passing Out On A Philadelphia Bus Sparks Investigation

When a YouTube video of a young mother trembling on the verge of consciousness was posted to the “People of Septa” Facebook page this past Thursday, it prompted the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and the Department of Human Services to each launch investigations, according to Philly.com. The video now has over 800k views.

The disturbing footage features a mother being propped up by her worried, allegedly 7-year-old daughter, according to NBC10. The video very much looks like a testament to the ills of heroin abuse, though police have yet to reveal the presence of drug use in the incident. Whether drugs were present or not, the mother’s repeated wilting in spite of her daughter’s vain attempts to rouse her, marked a sad scene on the bus service in Northeast Philadelphia.

The over four-minute video is a call to action regarding child abuse and neglect. Though the Department of Human Services showed disappointment in the SEPTA passengers who failed to act as bystanders to the reprehensible scene, notes MailOnline, they did start their investigation due to the now highly popular video posted by the passengers.

If you feel like you have yet to witness your healthy dose of poor parenting, watch the video above. However, it’s important to point out that the problem goes deeper than an allegedly neglectful mom. Drug abuse and other unknown factors contribute to problems such as the one displayed in this video every day and everywhere. Jumping to conclusions about one parent’s behavior may not be the method to improving children’s conditions at home in Philadelphia and beyond.
