Green Bay Police Officer Goes Too Far With Overly Aggressive Arrest (Video)
A recent cell-phone video captured a Green Bay, Wisc. police officer going too far while on the job. The video, originally posted on Facebook by Troy Jordan (according to YouTube) has been shared thousands of times and viewed on YouTube by the tens of thousands. It shows Officer Derek Wicklund assaulting a former bar patron who “yelled profanities at an officer,” reported Fox 11, after the arrest of another individual outside of the bar.
The incident occurred April 18 on Washington Street as people stood outside of the closed downtown bar. The video was released April 21, after being turned into the police April 20. A police lieutenant told Fox 11 that the department’s Professional Standards Division is now looking into the officer’s actions to see if he responded inappropriately to the situation.
Witnesses noted the “excessive force” used by the officer to subdue the man shown in the video. He was the third arrested at the scene, following the initial arrest of an individual who allegedly took a drink with him outside of the bar. Since the incident, a couple of witnesses made it over to the Green Bay police department to express disquiet over the officer’s actions.
According to Live Leak, Wicklund’s crimes include aggravated assault, battery and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. The police department has yet to release further information on the incident’s outcome. Due to witnesses’ concern, it seems as if the officer’s actions will not be taken lightly.
