Henderson Alvarez Gets A No-Hitter With Help From The Opposing Pitcher (Video)
Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez got a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. But, it took a bases-loaded wild pitch to swing a 0-0 game in the Marlins’ favor. The 23-year-old Venezuelan secured his first career no-hitter, but he couldn’t do it without Detroit Tigers pitcher Luke Putkonen. With Alvarez warming up in the on-deck circle, Marlins infielder Luke Dobbs stepped up to the plate as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded. However, Putkonen’s first pitch was in the dirt, and the Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton took home on the wild pitch. According to STATS, LLC., out of 282 no-hitters in the MLB’s history, this is the first one to end on a wild pitch.
