Professional comedian and prankster Tom Mabe has a friend who just doesn’t seem to learn. The friend has racked up five DUIs to date, and he’s still at it. It seems to be a regular occurrence for him to drink, get behind the wheel and pass out.

Mabe and his friend Jim decided it was time to teach the unnamed friend a lesson to try to get him to stop drinking and driving for good. They found an empty office, borrowed some medical gear and put together a convincing hospital room. Then they waited for the friend to pass out, practically on schedule, and haul him into the room. When the friend wakes up, he’s greeted by fake doctors who tell him he got into a car accident after drinking and has been in a coma for a full decade.

Mabe and the crew really go the extra mile with a fake news report about President Hillary Clinton’s controversial policies and the odd antics of a washed up Miley Cyrus. After the report, another doctor files into the room. This time he tests the friend’s reflexes, asking if he can feel his feet, tapping on his knees and periodically asking “Do you feel this?” The “doctor” reveals the hoax with a swift smack in the face, asking, “Do you feel that?” He goes on to chastise his drunk driving and give him a mild beating.

Will the lesson stick? I sure hope so. The friend asked repeatedly about his daughter, and I like to think he wasn’t in on the prank beforehand. The next time he’s out drinking, I hope he’ll think about missing 10 years of his daughter’s life, and I hope that’ll be enough to make him hand over his car keys.
