Chernobyl was the site of the 20th century’s worst nuclear meltdown in 1986. The then-Soviet region in Ukraine has since been abandoned, but tourists and thrill-seekers routinely visit some of the safer areas of the abandoned zone. This Russian man has a deathwish, as he is fishing at the plant’s cooling pond, in the shadow of the abandoned power plant complex.
He pulled out a 28 kilogram fish, which is just about 62 pounds. Are these mutant fish, made into monsters by years of radiation exposure? Maybe. The most reasonable explanation for why these fish are so damn big is because nobody in their right mind would go this close to a nuclear accident scene, let alone wade into radioactive water. Hats off to you, Chernobyl fisherman. Just don’t try to eat your catch.
