The benevolent tipper behind the tipsforjesus Instagram account has been identified as Jack Selby, a former PayPal executive, according to Gawker. No wonder he’s got some cash to burn!

Selby’s been leaving massive tips of up to $10,000 at bars and restaurants across the country, all in the name of the Lord. And now a tipster tells Gawker that the Jesus motif was just a joke.

It looks like those close to Selby have known his secret identity for some time. They’ve been hinting at it on Facebook all along.

The person who finally identified Selby is a waiter at Bo’s Kitchen in New York City. Aruj Dhawan told the New York Post that Selby and two friends ordered $111.05 in food and drink, and then tipped $1,000. “As I was about to drop the check off, one of the men said they would ‘make my night,'” Dhawan said. “They called me over, gave me the check — I was amazed. They took a picture [with me] and literally, just like that, they walked out.”

Manager Benjamin Cramer was able to catch Selby before the group left. Cramer asked them why they leave such big tips, to which members of the party said “Just because” and “We tip a hundred times the bill.”

Tipsforjesus posted a picture of the bill from Bo’s on Instagram, along with a picture of Dhawan looking very happy. Will Selby keep posting his receipts now that his identity has been revealed?
