What Was On Jon Lester’s Glove?

The Red Sox put a beatdown on the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night en route to an 8-1 Game 1 victory. Red Sox starter Jon Lester was dominant, but one eagle-eyed Twitter user noticed something looked a little bit off. What the hell is that goop in Lester’s glove? It’s hard to tell if it’s some sort of substance or if the glove might have some wearing at that particular spot. The veteran lefty got the win, pitching 7 2/3 innings and fanning 8 Cardinal batters while only allowing 5 hits and a walk. But, the inside of his glove looks a little suspect and has a lot of people (mostly shrill, insufferable Cardinals fans) wondering.

Apparently, Lester’s glove has the word “Zane” written on the outside of it in silver marker. He told ESPN that Zane is a 6-year-old cancer patient who is a big Red Sox fan. “I take him out there with me everytime I pitch,” Lester told ESPN. Okay, but what else is Lester taking with him out to the mound?
