47 Acre Hillsborough Estate Up For Sale For $100 Million
A historic estate in the San-Francisco-area’s rustic town of Hillsborough is up for sale for the bargain price of $100 million. Designed by the acclaimed architecture firm Bliss & Faville, the 16,000-square foot home, which includes seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a ballroom, flower-arranging room, a library, swimming pool and staff wing, was built in 1914 and sits on 47 acres owned by the de Guigne family for 150 years. The property also boasts two reservoirs, formal gardens and views of both the San Francisco skyline and the East Bay.
The owner, 75-year-old Christian de Guigne IV, is selling the home for “estate-planning purposes,” but there’s a catch. De Guigne is retaining a life estate on the property—meaning he comes with it. Regardless of who the new owners are or when they take ownership, De Guigne will have full access and exclusive use of the home for as long as he is alive. Basically, the house comes with a live-in grandpa—for a while anyway.
