Geno Smith Has A Butt Fumble To Call His Own (Video)

After winning the Jets’ quarterback job only because Mark Sanchez’s shoulder crumbled into dust, Geno Smith must have still felt the need to one-up the Sanchise with a butt fumble of his own. It’s hard to tell which butt fumble is worse. Sanchez’s butt fumble has been a national laughingstock since last Thanksgiving, but Smith’s fumble is just as humiliating.

With Karl Klug of the Tennessee Titans bearing down on him, Smith tried to pull off what I can only describe as a behind-the-back basketball move. Instead of covering up the ball and taking the sack for a safety, or trying to avoid the rush, scrambling out of the tackle box and throwing the ball away, Smith decided to try and switch the ball to his left hand inexplicably. Unfortunately for Smith, the Jets signal-caller was in his own end zone when he made this brilliant decision. Smith finished the day with 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles in an ugly 38-13 loss. Smith fumbled the ball 32 times during his NCAA career at West Virginia and was marked down on many teams’ draft boards because of his below-average hand size. It looks like the 31 other NFL teams’ scouts got it right.
