Scientists Create Device To Cook Perfect Hard-Boiled Egg

The hard-boiled egg. It should be the simplest thing to cook, yet it never seems to come out right. Boil water, insert egg, right? Apparently not for the millions of us who have ended up with cracked, rubbery or runny eggs.

Thanks to Russian scientists, the perfect hard-boiled egg may now be within any novice cook’s grasp. A group of inventors known as KIAN claim their tiny gadget, the Gogol Mogol, can hard boil the perfect egg in record time without putting it in an ounce of water. The Gogol Mogol is basically a cardboard egg holder made with chemical layers that produce heat when activated.

The product is just a usual egg in an unusual package, possessing unique product properties,” a spokesman for KIAN said.

The egg box uses the same sort of chemicals as self-heating tins, such as calcium hydroxide and water. The user simply pulls a tag from the container, and the chemicals begin their reaction to heat the egg within about two minutes. Each Gogol Mogol is disposable after one use.

Although not currently available for sale, the product is being shopped to various manufacturers in the hope it will become available to consumers.
