Apple Stores Will Not Be Open On Thanksgiving

Apple Inc. will not be joining the ranks of other retailers who will be opening their stores on Thanksgiving Day. According to a report from ifoAppleStore.com, the Cupertino company had planned to open selected stores in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day in an effort to boost sales for the holiday season. In the past, the only two stores to be open on Thanksgiving were the Royal Hawaiian location and the Forum Shops location in Las Vegas. Other store locations have been opened as early as 3:00 a.m. in the past to accommodate Black Friday shoppers, but never on Thanksgiving Day.

Marketing Directors Pushing For More Sales

According sources who are close to the matter, several of Apple’s Market Directors have been pushing for more store locations to be open on Thanksgiving. The idea is that this will boost sales during the holiday shopping season, thus ramping up revenue for the tech giant.

The plan had called for 10 locations to be open on Thanksgiving Day, which would have undoubtedly boosted Apple’s take for the holiday season. However, the Marketing Directors will not be getting their holiday wish this year.

On Wednesday morning, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, announced that the plan to open stores on Thanksgiving would never come to fruition. Amid objections from Market Directors, he said that it is more important that Apple employees spend time with their families during the holidays than for Apple to increase its coffers.

While this may draw criticism from some business minded individuals, it should definitely draw applause from Apple employees who will now be able to spend Thanksgiving Day with their families. As stores across the country gear up to open on Thanksgiving with huge sales and massive discounts, the Apple stores will quietly stand as a reminder that at least one company in the United States feels that the personal need of its employees come before earning and extra dollar.
