Rotten Twinkie For Sale On EBay

Urban legend has it that a nuclear holocaust will be survived only by Twinkies and cockroaches. According to one Hostess myth, the company stopped producing Twinkies decades ago and the snack cakes now for sale have been stored in a Hostess warehouse for years. Their shelf life is indefinite, right? Have you ever seen a “rotten” Twinkie?

Now you have. A Rotten Twinkie is currently for sale on eBay. With a current bid of $46, the fuzzy green cake that looks more like a piece of poo wrapped in plastic will be up for bid until Jan. 30 at 1:37 p.m. PST. According to the seller, high_order1, he noticed green streaks in the yellow cake just before biting into it. After contacting Hostess, he found Twinkies actually have a shelf life of 25 days. He decided to keep the Twinkie on top of refrigerator as a biology experiment. The result is now up for sale and has received 10 bids.

Who would bid on a rotten Twinkie? Probably folks who now see it as a historical artifact. Hostess Brands went out of business in November and Twinkies are currently out of production for the first time in 80 years. News of a Twinkie shelf life sucks for everyone who stocked their pantry shelves with the golden snacks in the days surrounding the Hostess closure.

But according to the Washington Post, Twinkies are likely to be resurrected sooner rather than later. Eleven companies have submitted bids to purchase Hostess cake brands and even the owner of Pabst Blue Ribbon bear is expected to bid on Hostess, according to Time. Other companies that have bid on all or parts of Hostess Brands include McKee Foods Corp. and Flower Foods, Inc.
