Elon Musk, the billionaire inventor and CEO of Tesla Motors, took to Twitter to thank Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak for purchasing a Tesla Model S. Wozniak had been a fan of alternative fuel, with his last car being a 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid. Apparently, he’s been wanting the Model S for a while now.

In an interview with the Verge, he admitted that he’d been sending his wife articles about the car for years and hoped to get one for his birthday. “Now, she might surprise me and get me a Model S for my birthday in August, we’ll see,” he said, adding, “…one day she said, ‘Hey, we should go down and look at one,’ and decided, okay, we’ll buy it, but we backed out. Elon Musk wrote me, he sent me some emails, he was pissed that I was getting a gas guzzler and that I wasn’t a Silicon Valley boy. But you know, there are some times that you have to make tradeoffs. Because my wife’s from Kansas, I’m no longer just buying anything I feel like at any time.”

Now he finally got what he wanted.

And Elon  Musk, is happy, too.

An interest in green cars isn’t the only connection the Apple cofounder has with the Model S. Tesla hired George Blankenship vice president of sales and ownership experience, who was also responsible for creating the signature look of Apple’s stores.

Hopefully he enjoys the Model S he’s been longing for better than the Toyota. Toyota received some bad press with allegations that the Prius Hybrid had issues with braking. Woz claimed that, like many other people, he had experienced some unwanted acceleration with his car. Fortunately for Woz, he gets the star treatment and was able to contact Toyota president Jim Lentz directly about his issue. In a webchat Lentz stated, “We are working with [Wozniak] on the operation of the cruise control. Please forgive us while we quietly smirk.”

It seemed as though the Hybrid’s cruise control, set up differently than most other carmakers, was the culprit.

This new model has an accelerator that goes wild, but only under certain conditions of cruise control,” Woz said at Discovery Forum 2010. “And I can repeat it over and over and over again—safely,” he continued. “This is software. It’s not a bad accelerator pedal. It’s very scary, but luckily for me, I can hit the brakes.”
