Analyst Predicts Apple TV in Fall 2013

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has revised his Apple television prediction yet again. Now Munster forecasts the set will possibly roll to market in November 2013, just in time for next year’s holiday shopping season. He also speculates the television will range in size from 42 to 55 inches and cost anywhere from $1,500 to $2,000.

“We expect the beauty of the design to be a feature,” Munster said in the report. “But the most important feature will be the ability to use the TV as the main interface for the living room across multiple devices.”

How reliable is Munster’s prediction? Well, in August 2011 he told VentureBeat the Apple television would make its debut in late 2012 or early 2013. Back in 2009 Munster first claimed Apple would introduce its own television in 2011, but later reneged that report. This time, however, Munster’s prediction comes just after Jefferies & Co. analyst James Kisner announced an Apple Television was “imminent.”

Not only does Munster predict an Apple television in 2013, he also laid out what he believes will be the company’s product releases for the next year. According to Munster’s report, Apple will launch a retina display-ready iPad mini in March, as well as the company’s new radio service. During the summer, Apple will release iOS7—featuring extra Passbook wallet options, Groupon and Living Social integration with Siri and Maps improvements—and retina display Macbook Airs. In September, Munster forecasts the launch of the iPhone 5s with a faster processor, more RAM and an improved camera, as well as an upgraded iPad mini.
