Domino’s Delivers Pizza By Drone (Video)

Pizza delivery that doesn’t stop for traffic? Sounds pretty appealing, but getting pizza brought to your doorstep by a drone takes the notion a step further.

Drone pizza delivery may become a regular reality with Domino’s “DomiCopter,” developed by T + Biscuits creative agency in the UK, who also tested the device recently when it embarked on a double pizza delivery, traveling a reported four miles in 10 minutes. Tom Hatton, founder of T + Biscuits, told NBC that the delivery was a success. “If anything it went quicker than a pizza boy… we were amazed at how easy it was going to be.”

An experienced drone pilot carried out the delivery of two large pizzas, the maximum weight a DomiCopter can carry. Hatton’s not concerned that people might want to order more than that. “I can’t believe anyone would want to order more than two large pizzas,” he said.

I can, but surely a whole drone pizza army could make that happen if needed. Maybe Hatton and Domino’s can assemble a drone specifically for the Super Bowl. In the meantime, Domino’s UK headquarters serves as the home of the DomiCopter, where it’s practicing first with large bottles of Coke to deliver alongside the pizzas. What’s pizza without a sugary, carbonated beverage, anyway?

Watch the first ever test run of flying pizza here, and be thankful that Domino’s went with the name DomiCopter instead of one of its earlier options, the “Pepperdroney.
