Although American football is basically a bastardized version of rugby, for whatever reason the game has not caught on in the States like it should. For those not aware, rugby is basically 15-on-15 football with no pads or helmets. In a nutshell, teams try to score “tries” which are in essence a touchdown, except unlike in American football, in rugby, to score the try you have to get the ball into the end zone and touch it down to the ground while controlling the ball. The ball can be carried, kicked and passed, but passes can only go to the side or backwards. Oh, and when someone gets tackled, the game doesn’t stop: after a tackle, both teams fight for possession of the ball. Oh, and there’s only one referee to govern 30 “ruggers.” Did I lose you yet?
