It has been rumored for about a week that Apple is in active discussion to acquire Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, according to multiple reports — a deal that would be would Apple’s largest acquisition ever. While there has been no official word from either company on whether the acquisition has cleared or is even valid, a new video popped up on YouTube just earlier today with a celebration in full swing.

The video titled “Dr Dre – Hip Hop’s first Billionaire (Celebrates With Tyrese) has been circulating around the Internet since earlier today with a celebration apparently with “Mr. Beats” and Tyrese Gibson. Apple Insider reports that the video was originally posted on Tyrese’s Facebook page, with the caption, “How did I end up in the studio with Dr Dre ON THE night his deal went public that he did with Apple 3.2 BILLION!!!!! The BEATS HEADPHONES JUST CHANGED HIP HOP!!!!!!”

According to VentureBeat, there have been reports of Beats Electronics co-founder Jimmy Iovine having a hand in influencing Steve Jobs to launch a music streaming service for Apple users, there were rumors last of year of a partnership between Apple and Beats Electronics. If the acquisition is the real deal, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise for a lot of people who have been closely following the interaction between the two companies over the last few years.

The biggest departure from the days of Steve Jobs would be the large-scale acquisition of such a deal—something that Apple has never previously been known for. But since Matt Cook took over the role of chief executive after Jobs passed away in 2011, business strategy has changed to include more acquisitions and joint deals. Cook reported in the last earnings call  that Apple had acquired some 24 companies in the last 18 months. Change is in full swing, indeed!

We are expanding Apple’s products and services into new categories, and we are not going to underinvest in this business,” Cook said in the earnings call.

We have to wonder what flashy new products will be in store if the Apple-Beats deal goes through in the near future. Both brands are well known for their signature looks and unique features, and it will be interesting to see how the brands evolve as one.
