Dunkin’ Donuts Testing Gluten-Free Products

Good news for celiac-sufferers with a sweet tooth: Dunkin’ Donuts is currently testing gluten-free donuts at locations in Florida and Massachusetts, with plans to expand the product to more locations in 2013. The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness labeled the products “dangerously delicious,” and to avoid possible cross-contamination with the many products containing gluten, the gluten-free fare are individually wrapped.

A Dunkin’ Donuts spokesperson told the NFCA the products have received very positive feedback but would not name a timeframe for national distribution. According to a Facebook post by a South Florida Dunkin’ franchisee, however, there are plans to expand the test in February, with possible full distribution by next summer. Dunkin Donuts already lists its coffee as gluten-free.

Dunkin’ Donuts joins a growing list of fast-food chains offering gluten-free options, including Wendy’s, Arby’s, Domino’s and Chic-Fil-A. According to the Huffington Post, sales of gluten-free products have rose 18 percent from 2011 to 2012 on a monetary basis.
