Facebook Honors DOMA Decision With New Rainbow Emoji

In light of the Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act on Wednesday, Facebook has revealed a new rainbow emoji, signifying pride.
Now, when users click on the smiley-face icon and select the “feelings” menu from the drop-down list, they will see a rainbow emoji that represents pride for the ruling.
The Supreme Court overturned DOMA, the 1996 act that barred federal recognition of same-sex marriages, on a 5-4 vote. This means that legally married same-sex couples now have the same rights as heterosexual couples.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg gave his stance on the ruling by posting this status update:
Since Facebook began testing emojis in status updates in April, it isn’t clear whether all Facebook users will have access to this option.
