Forget About E-Cigarettes, The E-Joint Is Here

It might not be as exciting as medical marijuana finally coming to New York, but the creation of the world’s first e-joint is enough to pique our interest.

Dutch company E-Njoint B.V. has introduced the world’s first electronic joint. It even comes in the shape of an honest-to-goodness joint — but it’s “100 percent legal” — in Holland at least.

E-Njoint claims that the e-joint is absolutely harmless, containing no nicotine, tobacco, or even THC — the active chemical ingredient in marijuana. So, how does this thing work? Users get to fill the ejoint with their own dry herbs or even cannabis liquid, and voila — you’ve got yourself a smokeless, joint. Contant says that the e-joint also vaporizes vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol and one of six “biological” fruit flavors like watermelon, passion fruit, green apple, and “sweet energy” — whatever that is.

And at least for a place like Holland, where drug laws are a bit more lax than in countries like the United States, the e-joint seems like a good alternative to actually lighting one up.

Holland is well known in the world for its tolerant and liberal attitude toward soft drugs and the introduction of this new product clearly makes a statement,” Contant told Yahoo News. “As long as you don’t bother or disturb other people and stay within the legal boundaries, all is well. Everyone should feel fine because what we are doing is no crime.”

The e-joint is currently available in the Netherlands and in France, where Contant says more than 10,000 per day are being sold for eight euros.

It will, indeed, be interesting to see whether a product like this can make its way through pass the strict and rigid drug laws in the United States, where recreational marijuana use is still very much frowned upon, so to speak.
