Cory Kalanick is a firefighter in Fresno, California. While putting out a fire in an apartment building in July, Kalanick came across an unconscious kitty, which he promptly rescued and resuscitated. GoPro took Kalanick’s helmet cam footage to turn it into a marketable moment, complete with slow-motion shots and some inspiring music. Kalanick, whose Twitter handle is “TheVeganFF,” named the kitten “Lucky.” Awww.

Unfortunately for the vegan firefighter, and the rest of the internet, “Lucky” was on his ninth life. The Fresno ASPCA took custody of the feline, but reported that Lucky didn’t survive the night.
