How Astronauts Clip Their Nails In Space [VIDEO]
A video taken from the International Space Station has just gone viral. In the video, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Chris Hadfield explains how he and fellow cosmonauts complete a simple task most people take for granted—clipping their nails. In the absence of gravity, nail clippings can actually become dangerous flying objects, flying into astronaut’s eyes or even getting inhaled into their lungs. Talk about ouch! In the video,
Hadfield demonstrates a clever solution. Astronauts use basic nail clippers but hover near an air duct, so that the clippings are sucked into the vent. Wouldn’t it be easier just to use a file instead?
