Instagram Leads To 142 Felony Charges For Just One Man After Police See His Account
Depree Johnson, 19, really enjoyed sharing quick photos of his life on Instagram, like most teenagers do. And, like most teenagers, he didn’t know where to draw the line.
The Floridian posted pictures of himself posing with wads of cash, various guns and what appeared to be drugs. His Instagram account duce22ceritfied has since been cleared of all pictures, but not before Palm Beach County Sheriffs saw all the self-incriminating photos, according to local news station WPBF.
Sheriffs had been keeping an eye on Johnson in connection with a series of burglaries in the area. He already had a rap sheet that included five felony convictions like grand theft and burglary, according to the New York Daily News. When Johnson posted a photo of himself posing with guns, that was enough for police to pay him a visit, since convicted felons in Florida are not allowed to possess firearms.
Police obtained a warrant, searched his Lake Worth home and found $250,000 worth of stolen items. They found two stolen handguns and ammunition, along with electronics and jewelry.
Police determined that Johnson was the ringleader for the “dinnertime burglars,” a group responsible for a series of burglaries that targeted senior citizens. WPBF reports the group was responsible for dozens of local burglaries since March.
Johnson now faces a total of 142 felony charges, including possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
If Johnson’s selfies haven’t convinced people he has no shame, maybe his occupation will. When investigators asked Johnson what his occupation was while they were completing the arrest report, Johnson answered, “Thief.”
Police fittingly took to social media to announce the arrest. The Sheriff’s Office posted a summary of the string of burglaries on its Facebook page, alongside Johnson’s mugshot and a few pictures of the recovered stolen items.
