‘jOBS’ Movie to Close Sundance in January

Sundance Film Festival organizers announced Monday the “jOBS,” starring film and television star Ashton Kutcher, will close the festival, which runs Jan. 17-27, 2013, in Park City, Utah. According to Variety, the biopic chronicles “Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple,” covering 30 years of Jobs’ live, starting in 1976 when he and Steve Wozniak founded Apple to the late 1990s when Jobs returned to the company after being forced out. According to Variety, it will not cover Job’s later years. The film was directed by Joshua Michael Stern.

We’re really excited to have it as the closing night,” Sundance director of programming Trevor Groth told USA Today. “It’s really an inspirational and entertaining film about a man who has had such a significant impact on the world.

Skeptics criticized Kutcher’s role as Jobs, who died in October 2011 after a struggle with cancer. Many said he was only selected because of his striking physical resemblance to the Apple co-founder. But Groth told USA Today the “Two and a Half Men” star excelled in the film.

My hunch is he got the job because he bears such a striking resemblance to Jobs physically,” Groth said. “But (Kutcher) really owns the performance.
