Man whose dog was shot four times tells his side of the story

The viral video of a dog being shot four times by a police officer continues to generate buzz. In Hawthorne, California in late June, a video shows a man, identified as Leon Rosby, being arrested while his dog (a Rottweiler), who was in a car, comes out to protect its owner and is then shot four times by an officer who feels threatened. A full break-down of the video can be read here.

Now, Rosby’s reaction to what happened has been released. Rosby claims that the officers would not give him his dead dog back, and that he was accused of resisted arrest, although the video clearly shows the Rosby backing up to allow the officers to handcuff him.

Rosby says in the video: “So I asked the Lieutenant, I said, is that protocol for someone to kill a dog and shoot him four times after the dog was trying to flee? If you see where the blood is going, he wasn’t coming to the officer no more. So that one shot had him, and he was trying to get away, then he died right here in the street.”

He identifies the officer who killed the dog as Officer Salmon.

According to the Daily Breeze, Rosby was asked to turn down his blaring music while being at the scene and he refused.

“It’s distracting the officers,” Lt. Scott Swain told the Breeze. “It’s interfering with what they are able to hear. It’s not just a party call. It’s an armed robbery call. The officers need to hear what’s going on with the people being called out of the residence. That music in his car is bleeding over and distracting them.”

“There was no way Max should have died like that,” Rosby told the Breeze. “Max was only protecting his master. He was trying to stop them from beating on me.”
