6’4” 230-pound fireballing All-Star pitcher Matt Harvey is probably the best starting pitcher in the National League, aside from Lincecum. Matt Harvey was in the 4-letter network’s “Body Issue,” where he posed nude in 6 different pictures for the mag.

So, you would think he would be a recognizable athlete in New York. The Mets and Yankees aren’t doing so hot in the standings, but Harvey is far and away the best pitcher in the city, and one of the best in the country. Yet, as this hilarious clip from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon shows, nobody recognizes the guy (even fans wearing Mets gear).

My favorite guy in this clip is the last guy-on-the-street Harvey interviews, the know-it-all kid with the messenger bag at 3:06 in the clip.

Harvey: “What do you think about Matt Harvey?”
Kid: “I think he’s decent, but he hasn’t proved enough. He’s only gone a couple months now, so…”
Harvey (while holding up his own baseball card to the kid, who is still oblivious): “What kind of advice would you give him if he’s standing right here next to you?”
Kid: “I would tell him not to blow his arm out, not to go too many innings. Not to go over 100.”
Harvey: “Do you think he’ll start the All-Star Game?”
Kid: “No.”

Props to Harvey for somehow keeping a straight face through all of this. You will likely start seeing him on TV more after his hilarious performance. Matt Harvey should be famous in New York for how he’s playing baseball right now. He can’t even get his own fans to recognize him (even his fans that have seen him naked).
