Miami Heat ‘Bird Lady’ Is Widow of Hedge Funder Seth Tobias

Social media has been buzzing about the Miami Heat fan, now being called the “bird lady,” who creatively and heatedly told the Chicago Bulls’ Joakim Noah he was No. 1 after he was ejected from last night’s game. Interestingly enough, the blond in the brightly-colored top is no random fan, either, but Filomena Tobias, the infamous widow of hedge funder and former CNBC commentator Seth Tobias who drowned in his pool in 2007.

Tobias, who goes by Phyllis, was the center of controversy and investigation when her husband, the 44-year-old CEO of the $300 million hedge fund Circle T, drowned in the late hours of Sept. 3, 2007. Police initially deemed it accidental, but then Seth’s brothers claimed his widow has drugged him and lured him into the pool by promising sex with a gay prostitute. Pretty fucked up, right? It’s unbelievable the lengths some assholes will go to in order to try and take hold of a $25-million estate. Police eventually cleared Tobias, but of course once it’s there, that sort of suspicion never entirely goes away in the eyes of the public.

So when Tobias decided to give Noah the one-finger salute, the press was quick to catch on to her identity. She’s not talking to the press, but her daughter told the Sun Sentinel the family holds season tickets for the Heat and never misses a game.

“She’s embarrassed, but she is being a good sport,” the daughter, Victoria Racanati, told the Sun Sentinel on Thursday. “She was having fun just like any other fan. All she has to say is that people need to get a life.”
