OKCupid Launches App For Crazy Blind Dates

If you’re not afraid of getting set up with an axe murderer or serial rapist, OKCupid may have the perfect app for you. The Crazy Blind Date app—just launched for free on iOS and Android—sets users up with completely random partners at the local venue of their choice.

Crazy Blind Date is completely different from other online dating services. It doesn’t match users based on interest or compatibility. It doesn’t even let potential dates look at one another before meeting in person. Users simply enter when they are available for a date and the app matches them with another user—of the appropriate sex—who is available at the same time in the same geographic region.

One hour before the scheduled date, a scrambled image of the date’s face is sent along with a name and the option to chat and arrange meeting details. Otherwise, it is truly a “blind” date.

After the date, the users can rate one another for a small fee. The more “kudos” a user earns, the more he or she will be recommended for future dates. Since an axe murderer is unlikely to leave a date satisfied to rate many “kudos,” at least it’s one measure to determine a date’s safety.

So who’s ready to take the risk and see if Prince Charming or Freddie Krueger shows up?
