Overade Foldable Bike Helmet
By now everyone knows they should always wear a helmet while bicycling, right? So why don’t they? Could the inconvenience of carrying the bulky head covering when the ride is complete be at fault? Possibly. Designer Patrick Jouffret and engineer Philippe Arrouart developed a solution: A bike helmet that folds into a compact size that can be placed into a bag, yet still provides the same protection of a standard helmet.
The Overade’s designers spent three years researching the product, which can be folded into thirds for easy storage. The helmet is available in three sizes. The design is currently a project on French crowdfunding site Ulule, but has not yet been approved for use. First, it must meet the standards for the European standard’s EN1078, a guideline that specifies requirements and test methods for bike helmets. Still, the project will be funded if it receives at least 100 pre-orders on Ulule by Feb. 6.
