Pardon Me… Grey Poupon Brings Back Classic Commercial For The Oscars
Pardon me, but do you remember the iconic Grey Poupon ads from the 1980s?
If you’re answer is, “But of course,” you’ll be stoked to find out the mustard maker—owned by Kraft Foods—has updated its commercial and added a unique twist to air during the Feb. 24 Oscars. According to Kraft, the new commercial picks up where the original left off. For those two young to remember, two proper British gentlemen—each in the back of a chauffeur-driven Bentley—pull up next to one another, as one asks the other if he has any Grey Poupon.
The new 30-second ad, called “The Chase,” will air at 7 p.m. EST (for those who don’t plan to watch the full Academy Award ceremony). The Associated Press describes the new ad as a bit more action-oriented than its predecessors. The ad will basically answer burning questions for anyone who’s ever wondered what happened after the original commercial ended. “The scene continues with the second car speeding off without the returning the mustard. A wild card chase through a golf course and city street ensues, complete with explosions.”
Don’t expect a new television staple, however. The new ad will only air the single time on live TV. GreyPouponChase.com will host an extended video of the car chase immediately following the airing, however, so the fun will continue. Plus, users can interact with the ad teaser on GreyPoupon.com and win prizes including caviar, champagne flutes and tokens made from luxury cards.
