Tinder is a less than one year old smartphone dating app that has positioned itself as being one of the most popular ways to find and connect you with people around you. Sean Rad, co-founder and CEO of Tinder, recently told Business Insider that his app has generated over 75 million matches as well as over 50 wedding engagements. Rad had the following to say when asked why he started Tinder:

We started Tinder because we realised there are a lot of tools that help humanity build stronger bonds with the people we already know…but there’s been a lack of focus around helping us as individuals meet people we don’t know. If you’re someone who’s hunting for a relationship, there’s this constant sense of rejection when not everyone you want to meet is open to meeting you back. As the hunted, you feel very overwhelmed and that there’s this massive sense of noise. That dynamic is an inhibitor.

Tinder is not the first app to use GPS data to connect you with locals, but it is one of the most successful. Future plans for the app include not only introducing you to new people to date, but also for friends. Furthermore, the app wants to be sort of a relationship coach and help you with you maintain your existing partnerships.
