Top Herbalife Distributor Commits Suicide In Pickup Truck
According to the New York Post, a top Herbalife distributor was recently found dead, and all signs point to suicide. John Peterson, 58, was found dead in his Ford pickup parked outside of his Colorado home. Ray Birch, undersheriff for Routt County, told the Post that he “succumbed to a single gunshot wound” and that the investigation indicated the wound was self-inflicted.
Herbalife CEO Michael Johnson sent out a memo to distributors, saying that Peterson “passed away suddenly, following a tragic accident at his home.”
Herbalife is direct selling company describes itself as a nutritional health business that sells products that promote overall well-being.
According to one report that listed the top 400 multi-level marketing earning, Peterson was listed at number 16 with an estimated monthly earnings statement of $300,000.
Peterson was a part of the Founder’s Circle, an elite group that represents the top 1 percent of salespeople. In a video posted in memoriam of him, he is shown giving a speech for Herbalife and discussing how it got him so far.

Peterson seemed to live a lavish lifestyle, owning four homes, including a “Wyoming cattle ranch and homes in Brazil and in a private beach club in Mexico, in addition to his residence in Colorado.”
Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, took shots at the nutritional company last year, calling it a pyramid scheme.
