Tiger and Turtle – Magic Mountain is a roller coaster for people who hate roller coasters. It’s completely walkable, with 249 steps along a 220-meter track in the shape of a roller coaster.

The unique design gives pedestrians the roller coaster experience without straps, motors, high speeds or any unwanted adrenaline. But it keeps the curvy layout, fun atmosphere and amazing views.

Created by Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth, the installation sits in a park in Duisburg, Germany. The coaster itself stands 21 meters tall atop a 33-meter high artificial hill, giving “riders” the best views of the surrounding park.

The finished product used 120 tons of galvanized steel, and LED lights illuminate the twists and turns at night.

Genth explained the installation’s name, stating, “The roller coaster stands for acceleration and high speed of a tiger but the visitor has to explore it step by step like a turtle.”

Mutter added, “The sculpture is an optical experience even from far away and yet it can be walked on via the steps.”
