WATCH: ‘ The Rent Is Too Damn High’ Guy Running For Mayor Of NYC, Releases Anthem

It may be a new race, but the message is the same. The rent is still too damn high. Jimmy McMillan became a viral sensation two years ago when he ran for governor of New York on the simple platform corresponding with his “The Rent is Too Damn High” party, which he amply explained during a debate with future Governor Andrew Cuomo and challenger Carl Paladino.

McMillan didn’t win the gubernatorial race, but since the rent is still too damn high he’s now entered the 2013 New York City mayoral race—and he’s placed his message to music in a YouTube video.

“Rent is at an all-time high in New York City,” states a reporter in the video’s opening. “The average cost of an apartment in Manhattan is now a whopping $3,794 a month. Critics say Bloomberg has failed.”

McMillan makes some excellent—and awesomely catchy—points in his music video. People working two or three jobs to pay the rent is ridiculous. Mothers not able to feed their children because of the cost of rent? That’s a problem. McMillan’s mustache and haircut are “too damn fly.” Why, yes they are, sir.

Hey, Jimmy, if you don’t get elected mayor,  you can always take the R.I.T.D.H. campaign to the presidential race in 2016! How about it?

New Yorkers first met Jimmy McMillan in late 2010 when he ran for governor against Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino.
