Xbox Next-Generation Console Could Launch in 2013

The Xbox rumor mill has been abuzz for some time with speculation on Microsoft’s next-generation console, codenamed Durango. In recent months leaked documents have uncovered some of the highlights of what is now being called the Xbox 720. It will not only feature a blu-ray player and a new version of Kinect—Kinect 2.0—but 8 MB of RAM and a four-core processor. Other features include TV-in and -out, a new gamepad, stereo imaging, better voice recognition and augmented reality with supporting glasses. Other rumors report the new console will not be called the Xbox 720, instead just Xbox.

According to Xbox World, the console will also come with a redesigned controller that will include a built-in HD touch screen. The next Xbox World magazine issue will devote several pages to Xbox rumors and will also include a mock-up of how the new console could look.

As more details become available, gamers are anxious to know when the new Xbox will be on the market. Although Microsoft has not announced a release date, the company recently listed a job posting that asked the candidate to oversee product launches, including Xbox, over the next 18 months. Based on the posting, which is no longer available, experts are speculating the new Xbox may launch in late 2013.
