Yahoo CEO Mayer Announces Tumblr Acquisition With GIF

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer appropriated announced her company’s acquisition of blogging site Tumblr with a gif posted to her own Tumblr blog. “Yahoo. Tumblr. Now panic and freak out. Keep calm and carry on,” the large image with flashing colors said.

We promise not to screw it up,” Mayer wrote. “Tumblr is incredibly special and has a great thing going.  We will operate Tumblr independently.  David Karp will remain CEO.  The product roadmap, their team, their wit and irreverence will all remain the same as will their mission to empower creators to make their best work and get it in front of the audience they deserve.  Yahoo! will help Tumblr get even better, faster.

Mayer also explained the Tumblr community—including 105 million blogs, 300 million unique monthly visitors and 120,000 daily signups—has the potential to grow Yahoo’s audience by 50 percent to more than a billion monthly visitors.
