So, it turned out that MLB commissioner Bud Selig decided to punish A-Rod under the Joint Drug Agreement, instead of invoking the commissioner’s executive power to banish Alex Rodriguez for life.

A-Rod will be suspended for 211 games. However, the suspension does not take effect until Thursday. As of right now, A-Rod is scheduled to make his first appearance in the pinstripes tonight against the White Sox. A-Rod is going to appeal the decision, so he will get to keep playing until an appeal verdict is reached.

A few other players were suspended just now as a result of the Biogenesis scandal. A-Rod is not the only Yankee to be suspended by baseball. Francisco Cerveli and Fernando Martinez will be taking a seat for 50 games. A pair of Mets got caught up in the scandal as well: Cesar Puello and Jordany Valdespin.

The other suspended players are Jhonny Peralta of Detroit; Sergio Escalona from Houston; Jesus Montero of the Mariners; Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers; Philadelphia’s Antonio Bastardo; free agent Jordan Norberto; and a pair of Padres, Everth Cabrera and Fautino de Los Santos.

Three other players were associated with the list of Biogenesis clients, but had already been suspended for positive tests this season, so a second suspension is not permitted. Those players are Oakland A’s pitcher Bartolo Colon; Yasmani Grandal, catcher for the Padres; and Melky Cabrera of the Toronto Blue Jays. Of course, Ryan Braun was also suspended in July for his role in the scandal.
