Already blowing past its $90,000 fundraising goal, startup Amiigo has raised more than $314,000 on crowdfunding site Indiegogo with 22 days left to go in its campaign. Amiigo has created a bracelet that helps people track the details of their exercise routines and the effects on their bodies. The Amiigo bracelet uses sensors such as an accelerometer, skin-temperature sensor and pulse oximeter to identify the type of exercise the user is doing and identify the benefits of the action. The Amiigo tracks specifics such as reps, sets, duration, speed and intensity, as well as heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, overall activity level and calories burned.

Compared to similar products, the Amiigo provides a more personalized fitness report because it details how the body is responding to a given activity. For example, the Amiigo can determine if the user is using an elliptical, running, swimming or lifting. In fact, it can identify more than 100 different activities and correlate them with physiological information such as heart rate and blood oxygen saturation.

We’re building a feature where the user can actually record different types of running in a practice session, and then see how/where those are turning up during competition or performance,” Amiigo’s Abe Carter told TechCrunch. “Additionally, by using activity recognition data from friends and/or standardized references, a user can get feedback on how closely his/her ‘run’ resembles that of a friend or some professional athlete. It can be used as a powerful learning tool.

The Amiigo also includes an accompanying show clip to capture the movements of the lower body. Although the devices can function independently of one another, using the devices together provides users with the most thorough tracking experience, monitoring overall activity level and calories burned.

The Amiigo bracelet and shoe clip communicate with iOS and Android phones using Bluetooth 4.0 technology. Since Amiigo has its own memory and can store hours of data, a constant Bluetooth connection is not required.

Those interested in backing the Amiigo project on IndieGogo can do so by pledging as little as $5. A $99 pledge, however, will earn the backer his or her very own Amiigo in black, as well as beta access to the Amiigo Fitness app when the product becomes available in June. A $119 pledge will earn the backer an Amiigo band in blue or green, and a $210 pledge offers two Amiigos in any color. Pledging $500 will get the backer five Amiigos and a $1,000 pledge offers ten Amiigos. Fifty and 100 Amiigos can even be obtained with pledges of $5,000 and $10,000.
