Muse The Brain-Sensing Headband Offers Futuristic Mind Control
Have you always wanted to play Jedi mind tricks? A device from InteraXon is offering the next best thing. Instead of using the Force, however, the Muse relies on the user’s own brain waves.
The Muse is basically a brainwave-sensing headband that uses four sensors—two on the forehead and two behind the ears—to measure brainwaves and send information to a smartphone or tablet. The user can then view the data and determine his or her state of mind. InteraXon hopes the device will help people develop their concentration skills, learn to avoid confrontation and practice relaxation.
InteraXon is currently raising funds on the web site Indiegogo in order to roll the Muse into production. After an initial goal of $150,000 was set, nearly $200,000 has already been pledged with 12 days left in the campaign. A pledge of at least $145 will earn pledgers their very own must next June.
Developers don’t plan to end their journey with production, however. They envision software for the Muse that allows users to play games with their minds, control hardware devices and even a future where the muse is used to cook and clean simply by thinking. How do you like those mind tricks?
