Olive ONE Crowdfunding On Indiegogo

Is that a hockey puck crowdfunding on Indiegogo? A paper weight? No, in a case of misleading appearances, the squat cylindrical object is Olive Media’s ONE multimedia device. And the company has already met its original Indiegogo crowdfunding goal of $200,000 with 54 days remaining in the campaign.

What is the Olive ONE? It’s a home music player that provides access to any and all music stored on devices connected to a user’s home network. San Francisco-based Olive claims the ONE is a truly wireless HD docking station—no docking required. Users can connect all their music libraries from any portable devices—including iPhone, iPad or Android—to the ONE without dealing with any connectors or adaptors. Because even Bluetooth 4.0 has limited range, however, Olive has included an ultra-fast dual-band Wi-Fi connection in the ONE. Even more, any music libraries stored on Macs, PCs or NAS can be shared with the ONE, as well.

The top of the ONE consists of 7-inch LED touchscreen interface. Olive also used ensured the ONE included its award-winning Audiophile sound quality. Plus, the company plans to design an additional connector box that will provide analog out, digital out and USB jacks so the ONE can be connected to a user’s amplifier, receiver or USB DAC. Olive may even add Ethernet connections in the future.

The ONE already includes Pandora software, and allows users to play YouTube videos. It also plays music from cloud services such as Amazon Locker, iTunes Match and Google Play.

Olive has set an extended crowdfunding goal of $500,000, and has current raised more than $308,000. Should the extended goal be met, Olive will allow backers to choose from a free connector box or an upgrade to a 1 TB hard drive. Pledges are accepted for as little as $30, which will earn the backer a T-shirt. Backers who pledge $50 will be awarded a $50 gift card to be used toward the purchase of an Olive ONE—retail price $399. A $100 pledge will earn a $100 ONE gift card.

Backers who pledge $399 will earn their very own ONE music player sometime around July 2013. Larger pledges will add features to the ONE, such as a 1 or 2 TB hard drive, a two-room kit or an SDK to develop music apps.
