Seqinetic ‘Sun’ Glasses Now Available to Kill Wintertime Blues

Seqinetic “sun” glasses are marketed as a way to fight off the wintertime blues. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, teens and adult are often inflicted with seasonal affective disorder, a type of depression that occurs during certain times of year, particularly winter months. Those who live in regions with longer winter nights are at a greater risk for SAD, and symptoms mirror those associated with other forms of depression. An effective treatment, for SAD, however, involves light therapy.

Formerly a successful project on crowd funding site Kickstarter, Seqinetics are now available for $75 a pair.

Seqinetic glasses are designed to counter seasonal affective disorder. The Danish-designed glasses provide a light source that mimics the sun’s rays. Six LED lights attached to the glasses bounce soft, white light around the eyes without shining directly into them. Creators Soren, Christian and Lasse promise the light is 100 percent UV-free and harmless to the eyes. Users can wear the glasses while reading, using a computer and conducting daily business. The glasses are designed to fit “anyone with one nose and two ears.” Seqinetics designers recommend wearing the glasses up to 30 minutes each day to experience the anti-depressant effects. In that amount of time, the glasses will deliver 2,500 lux of light from a small reflector area located about 2 inches above the eyes.
